EPPINGTON

Today,Barbara, Jim, Cassie and I went to the Chesterfield County Heritage Day at Eppington Plantation, the home of Thomas Jefferson’s brother-in-law. This house was built in the 1770s. Cassie and Jim joined in the colonial dancing and both of them enjoyed the Hot Air Balloon. Neither Barbara nor I thought we could get into the basket on the balloon, it was just to high for us to get our legs over the top and into the basket. It was fun just watching the others.

Cassie had a big surprise. One of the enactors (Jeff Beatman) was the former principal at the school she attended. He remembered her so of course we had to have a picture of the two of them together.

FIELD DAY AT THE APPLE ORCHARD

This morning just on a thought, Larry called Lovingston and talked with the manager at the apple orchard. We had a 2 day window to get apples, so we called and asked for Abby and Sam to take a trip with us. Sam sulked on the way there, wanting to go home, but once we were in the orchard they both had a wonderful time. We picniced on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bananas and lots of apples. We would help them climb the trees where the pickers had left apples hanging. Sam said it was the best field trip ever.

SPECIAL NOTE: The picture of Sam and Larry made the Chesterfield News section of the Richmond Times Dispatch on Sunday, November 4th.

Today I attended a meeting of the DAR. Their guest speaker was Connie Lapallo, author of DARK ENOUGH to see the STARS in a JAMESTOWN SKY. Her book is based on the TRUE STORY of the women and children at Jamestown. It a wonderful book. If you get a chance to read it please do so. More information about her and the book can be found at WWW.ConnieLapallo.com

Mom

Mom had just gotten a permanent. I couldn't get her to smile until I told her to say S_X. You can see what a big smile I got of her then.

FLAT HEAD CATFISH

Larry, his brother-in-law Jim and cousin Billy fished today in the James River at the Pony Pasture. Jim caught two of these big ones and gave Larry one. It weighed around 40 pounds. It was longer than our picnic table is wide. Good fishing Jim!!!

LABOR DAY WITH THE FAMILY

We had a nice visit today with the family. I felt VERY GOOD today so that made my visit with them so much better. Maybe I'm really on the road to recovery now.
Walter played with the the younger ones. They love their BIG cousin.

Hummingbird

Tried my hand at getting a shot of the hummingbirds yesterday. I still am not feeling up to par since surgery so I didn't get very many pictures. This hummer was flying in to the feeder when I snapped the picture. You can see her tongue at the end of the beak.

Fireworks

Larry and I have Sam and Abby while Tim and Elda are celebrating not only July 4th, but their 10th anniversary. Today we had a nice get to gather with Alice and family and Judy and Walt. Later, we took Sam and Abby to see the fireworks. Here are a couple of the ones I was able to take. Maybe someday I'll do better, but where we were was hard since there was so much traffic.

Cassie's Hummingbirds

I set the camera up for Cassie to take pictures of Hummers. She got a really good one of a male hummingbird. The female isn't too bad either.
