EPPINGTON

Today,Barbara, Jim, Cassie and I went to the Chesterfield County Heritage Day at Eppington Plantation, the home of Thomas Jefferson’s brother-in-law. This house was built in the 1770s. Cassie and Jim joined in the colonial dancing and both of them enjoyed the Hot Air Balloon. Neither Barbara nor I thought we could get into the basket on the balloon, it was just to high for us to get our legs over the top and into the basket. It was fun just watching the others.

Cassie had a big surprise. One of the enactors (Jeff Beatman) was the former principal at the school she attended. He remembered her so of course we had to have a picture of the two of them together.

FIELD DAY AT THE APPLE ORCHARD

This morning just on a thought, Larry called Lovingston and talked with the manager at the apple orchard. We had a 2 day window to get apples, so we called and asked for Abby and Sam to take a trip with us. Sam sulked on the way there, wanting to go home, but once we were in the orchard they both had a wonderful time. We picniced on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bananas and lots of apples. We would help them climb the trees where the pickers had left apples hanging. Sam said it was the best field trip ever.

SPECIAL NOTE: The picture of Sam and Larry made the Chesterfield News section of the Richmond Times Dispatch on Sunday, November 4th.
